THE STREETS OF SAN…San streetLombard street

When visiting the “San” area of California, namely San Jose, San Francisco or San Diego, etc., you might want to check out the following events and attractions on the streets, or in short…San street

In San Jose, an annual holiday parade began in 1981 when Santa Claus arrived at Plaza de Cesar Chavez for the opening of Christmas in the Park. During the first few years of its run, the parade only circled this San street plaza from Park Avenue. In the succeeding years, the parade became too large to go just around the park. In more recent years, the parade route usually varies by starting and ending points, but it follows the south route on Market  San Street and around the Christmas in The Park decoration on Plaza Cesar de Chavez San street.

While in town, take a drive along Winchester Boulevard and see the weirdest mansion ever built in San street — the Winchester Mystery House. The mansion is so named because of the architectural oddities built into the house. Believed to be haunted by the spirits of her dead baby daughter and husband, Sarah Winchester insisted on continuously building and expanding the house in this San street to appease the spirits. Today, this mystery mansion is a popular tourist attraction. Hundreds of visitors come along this San street house to see stairs that lead to nowhere, windows that open to brick walls, and chimneys that go four floors up. There are several tours to choose from — the Mansion Tour, the Garden San street Tour, the Behind the Scenes Tour and the Museums — all of which will be worth your while in this San street.

San Anselmo Avenue in San Anselmo, CA is a quiet and non-descript San street located in the Bay Area north of San Francisco. But for a few days at the end of July this quaint San street turns into a frenzy of activity with its annual antiques fair. Along this strip you will find a multitude of shops that offer a wide array of merchandise from European-label clothing to vintage shops, beach wear, bridal wear and exotic Asian decor.

For the serious San street shoppers, Prospect Street in San Diego is a dazzling display of elite storefront merchandise. This San street is lined with charming boutiques, high-end galleries and patrons from day well into the night. Another must-see, although not technically a  San street attraction, is the San Diego Street Scene. It is an annual music and arts festival that showcases some of the hottest bands and artists of the country.

In San Francisco, free live entertainment could be had just by walking along Market San Street on Fisherman’s Wharf. Live performers have played on the streets of San Francisco for decades, promoting tourism in the city. Also in this city can be found the most crooked San street in the world, Lombard Street. It covers one whole block and is famous for its steep, hair pin turns. To get to Lombard, start at Presidio Boulevard, follow the curves and switchbacks, which pass through several neighborhoods, and ends at The Embarcadero. Try driving or walking or taking the cable car. Any which way will give you either a challenge, a great view or both.
